Trinity ISE Exams at Dorset College Dublin

Take an internationally recognised English exam while you study in Dublin. Trinity ISE is integrated into our CEFR-aligned English Language programmes so preparation feels natural, not separate.

Trinity ISE & CEFR levels

Trinity’s Integrated Skills in English (ISE) exams assess reading, writing, speaking and listening together, and are mapped to CEFR levels used across Dorset College.

ISE Foundation A2
First external exam for learners consolidating A2 – everyday communication, simple texts and basic interaction.
ISE I B1
For independent users who can manage familiar situations in work, study and travel contexts.
ISE II B2
Strong B2 profile, often used for further or higher education entry and professional purposes.
ISE III C1
Advanced users able to operate effectively in demanding academic and workplace environments.

How Trinity ISE fits into your course

Preparation is built into our CEFR syllabus – you practise ISE-style tasks in class, then sit the exam on campus when you are ready.

Join an ELE programme
When you book your English Language course, you can indicate that you wish to take a Trinity ISE exam.

Integrated preparation
Teachers integrate ISE-style reading, writing, speaking and listening tasks into weekly schemes of work.

Mock exams
You complete at least one full mock exam under timed conditions, with feedback on performance.

Confirm level & date
Near the end of your course, the Academic Team confirms your CEFR level, ISE level and exam date.

Take the exam on site
Written and speaking components take place at Dorset College in quiet, supervised exam rooms.

Results & certificate
Dorset emails your result; Trinity issues a digital certificate you can use for study, work or visa purposes.

Trinity ISE at Dorset College is available to current English Language learners on eligible programmes, including 25+ week Stamp 2 visa courses where an external exam is required. Exams normally run once per month, subject to demand and Trinity scheduling.

Exam fees are additional to tuition and include registration with Trinity College London, Dorset exam administration and invigilation, and at least one mock exam. Fees may change in line with Trinity pricing; Admissions will confirm the current fee when you register.

Who pays an exam fee?
  • 🎓 ELE learners who choose to certify their level with a Trinity ISE exam.
  • 🛂 Learners on 25+ week Stamp 2 visa programmes, where an external exam is a visa requirement.

Your Academic or Admissions contact can confirm whether Trinity ISE is recommended or required for your programme.

On the day of your exam

Before you arrive

  • Check the date, time and room in your confirmation email.
  • Bring the photo ID you used at enrolment.
  • Arrive at least 30 minutes early for check-in with the Exams Team.

Late arrivals may not be admitted once the exam has started, in line with Trinity regulations.

During the exam

  • Written papers take place in quiet, supervised classrooms on campus.
  • Speaking & Listening is a one-to-one interview with a Trinity examiner (in person or via a secure remote link).
  • You may receive a separate time slot if the speaking test is not on the same day as the written exam.

FAQs

Do I have to be a Dorset College student to take the exam?

Yes. Trinity ISE exams at Dorset College are currently available only to enrolled Dorset College English Language learners. We do not accept external candidates at this time.

How is my exam level decided?

Your ISE level is based on your CEFR class level, internal assessment and teacher recommendation. The Academic Team will advise whether ISE Foundation, I, II or III is the best fit.

Is the Trinity ISE fee included in my tuition?

No. Exam fees are separate from tuition, although an external exam is required for some 25+ week Stamp 2 visa programmes. Admissions will confirm the exact fee when you register.

How will I receive my results?

When Trinity releases your results, Dorset College will email you with your outcome. Trinity then issues a digital certificate which you can use for further or higher education, employment or visa purposes where Trinity ISE is accepted.
