Choose your course

General English Course (AM)

Our morning General English course helps you build confidence in speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary through practical, real-life communication activities.

You can take this course on its own, or combine it with afternoon group classes or one-to-one lessons for a more intensive programme. If you wish to certify your level, you can prepare for internationally recognised exams such as Trinity ISE (held at Dorset College), Cambridge English and IELTS (taken at external exam centres).

You will also have access to our social programme – a great way to practise English while exploring Dublin and Ireland with your classmates.

  • Hours per week: 15 hours of morning classes
  • Timetable: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. (Break: 10:30–10:45)
  • Levels: Beginner to Proficiency (CEFR A0–C2)
  • Class size: Maximum 15 students (typically 8–14)
  • Availability: Year-round (see College Holiday Closures)

Class placement on your first day

When you arrive, you’ll complete a short placement test and interview so we can place you in the most suitable class for your level. New students can begin any Monday at 9:00 a.m. and are welcomed into their class straight away.

Description

If you are looking to improve your English skills in all areas such as Conversation, Oral Comprehension, Writing, Grammar and Vocabulary, this General English Course is designed just for you!   

To certify the language proficiency that you have acquired on the courses, the following examinations are available; Trinity ISE (takes place in the College), Cambridge and IELTS (taken in an external exam centre)

The course will also give you the opportunity to develop your English language skills while attending social events and availing of trips to explore Dublin and Ireland.

Timetable: Monday to Friday
Afternoon Classes:  13.00 p.m. - 16.15 p.m. (Break: 14.30 – 14.45)
Hours per week: 15
Class Levels:     Beginner to Proficiency (CEFR A1 to C2)
Class sizes:   Max: 15 students (generally have 8-14 Students)
Availability: Year round (See holiday Closing Dates for College)


Class Placement on the First Day

On arrival students are given a placement test and following an oral interview, are placed in an English class at the appropriate level to begin their course immediately. Students can begin their course on any Monday morning at 9.00 a.m. New students are welcomed and quickly become involved in the activities of the class and familiar with the College environment.

English Language Levels
General English Courses are available at seven levels from Beginner to Proficiency (CEFR A1 to C2).

Within each level there may be two or three different classes, allowing flexibility in class placement.

Business English are held at 2 levels, Intermediate and Upper Intermediate (B1 & B2).

B2 CEFR Upper Intermediate
C1 CEFR Advanced
